The Pro's would be delivering a happy, healthy baby in someone's home to loving parents and extended family. It would be a special bonding to have the baby not snatched away to be weighed and prodded by doctors and nurses. It would also save the family a lot of money to have the baby at home rather than in an expensive hospital.
The Con's would be if something went wrong during delivery. You would need to make a quick decision to save the life of the mother and/or baby. That is too much responsiblity for me. I would never forgive myself if I made the wrong decision and delivered a dead baby to the waiting parents. And if it could have been different had I noticed a problem and put the mother in a ambulance in time. Not me.

Everyone has, or should have a midwife during labour. But I am guessing you mean a private one you hire yourself. If you do, basically it just means you are guaranteed one on one attention with someone who have gotten to know. During my pregnancy I saw countless midwives and then got someone completely new on the day. I was lucky and it was the start of her shift so I got her throughout but at lot of people get 1 midwife to start with and another later one, and then another if they are still at it, as the shifts change. In busy wards you could also be sharing your midwife with a few other ladies, although this will be there for the actually pushing bit, or at least should be. Hope that makes sense, and let me know if I have mis understood the question.

Ahhh...well Pro you can CARE for your patient they tend to let themselves become comfortable with you and open up. Con you can not preform Sections and you have to hand over all the time you spent getting to know them to someone they do not know or trust. Pro you will have more clients it is the fad now to do more natural things. Con Mal Practice Insurance is so much more expensive most states are getting so ridiculous like here in Utah nearly throwing me out of practice cant afford it....Pro you will have a likeliness of return for next baby or regular OB appointment...

I am not one but I would imagine pro's being helping people and being around babies all the time.
con's would be being on call all the time and never know when you are going to have to go "to work" and any serious complications.

cons: 1) sticking your hand up there, 2) complications during birth. I considered this profession and these were my two drawbacks.
