A BMW boxer twin holds the world record for the longest lasting engine without rebuilding with 750,000 miles. Second one on the list is Honda Goldwing with 150,000 miles. You probably got the picture.

Everyone is just going to tell you what their favorite brand is. Honestly, just about any motorcycle brand will be reliable. The japanese bikes are well made. Even a Harley will be reliable. People don't think they are because they are living in the past. I don't know much about Triumph or BMW. I wouldn't buy one because I don't like their styling plus I imagine they would be expensive to fix and hard to find a place to service them. If you want to work on it yourself, japanese bikes are a pain. They cram everything so tightly together you have to take a bunch of stuff off just to get to something completely different.

Pick any of the Jap 4 and they are ALL made well. Reliability is great and generally not an issue. Usually if there is a problem it is due to poor maintenance or care by the owner.

IMO you can buy any of these with confidence.

Honda is a good name but they are also the most expensive to maintain. They are somtimes overly complex for no good reason. I like honda and i would buy one but at the same time they have thier followers (like harley) who can't see past the name.

Pick any of the Jap 4 based on style and looks and you will have a reliable bike.

Honda.

They have pretty much always set the standard for reliable motorcycles.

Next I'd say would be Yamaha. If you really feel you want a Harley, but hear lots of bad things about them, the new bikes are built quite well. They old bikes from the 70's and 80's were largely junk, but they company has changed everything since and make excellent bikes not.

Hmmm...probably a toss up between the big Honda's (Goldwing), the big BMW's (K-series) and the Yamaha Royal Star.
I'm a Yamaha fan myself, and I 'think' the Royal Star's have the best warranty in the business - 5 year/unlimited mileage. I don't believe anyone has a better warranty.
Having said I am a Yamaha fan, I will certainly say that both Honda and BMW make a good, reliable bike as well.

that has to be the BMW K series which had no real vices.
most catastrophic failures were non-maintained drive shafts, later models were nickel plated inside to counter this.
In those days they could make an engine last forever.
These days, a manufacturer would be out of business doing that sort of thing, hence the array of computers installed into once reliable motors.

Japanese, liquid cooled, shaft drive, or belt drive... Probably .. Honda 1st.. Yamaha, next.. then Suzuki and Kawasaki. Like cars look for Japanese.. and more of the bikes are made there than the also very good cars that are mostly not.
