My friends and I want to leave for Las Vegas on the morning of Independence Day, but I'm a little worried that traffic's going to be hectic. Does anyone have any experience in this, or know anything about it? Would leaving the night before be better?

You'd be better off flying, probably cost the same as the gas to fill your car, and if you are just partying on the strip, we don't want you driving.

Ill be the rebel and say that if you leave early enough, the 4th might not be that bad going up from LA. I would think it would be worse than a regular weds but Im guessing the day before will be much worse.

Coming home on the 5th will be a total and complete nightmare however. Have a great trip!

The traffic on the I-15 is not usually bad up til you get to the strip exits. I live in Vegas and I know last year they set check points out randomly to check for DUI's. So it shouldn't be bad driving into town but just make sure you haven't had the slightest to drink, they really really enforce it on the Fourth of July. Good luck and happy Independance Day!

You will get alot of traffic try to go the next day at 4am thats what im doing or leave the night before.

If you leave the night before try to leave around 8PM from L.A because of the City traffic. Im from San Diego always from Corona to Fontana there is traffic before that time

Safe Trip and good luck :)

I have driven to Vegas many times to visit family the day of a holiday. My best advice to you is wake up at the crack of dawn and leave by 5:00 a.m. You can be in town by 10:00 A.M. and the best part is you'll just be waking up! Driving in the early morning is easier on the car too because it isn't as hot. Have a great time!

usually friday afternoon it starts backing up... 250 miles of back up. But with the holiday in the middle of the week... You got twice the problems.

Leave at least one day before. Not 3 pm on the day before... 8 am or earlier the day before. Other wise bring your sleeping bag, a water jugg and a lot of cd's to listen to....

The traffic will be practically bumper-to-bumper the whole way. As with any holiday, and big weekend, (I know this is a Wednesday) but expect many cars, hope you have a reservation.

If you get on the freeway that day, you are hosed. Get there the night before at the latest.

Yes .................. awful.

Come early and stay late.
Reconsider this trip.
With the cost of gasoline today. A flight maybe your cheaper alternative.
