It may have been asked before, but if every business was closed, yes, including Wal-Mart, no working, no school, only police and ambulances and firepeople, only driving to help somebody, not just driving around, all gas stations closed except for emergencies, and possibly no boats, we could totally have a car free day. Sort of like Singapore. We would majorly help the enviroment, it could be like a super national holiday.

A better idea would be for all of us to drive in a more fuel efficient manner (say at the speed limit) and drive less all the time (plan trips with efficiency in mind). But that's too difficult for the average dumb-a**. But the great thing is that when gas gets up to $4 - $5 per gallon, which is will by July 4th, people will start to cut back one their own (although still driving inefficiently). A no driving day won't work. What if you only get one or two days a month off and that's the no driving day. How would that be fair?

PS I already do this, I don't drive on weekends, if I can't get there by bike or bus, I don't go. During the week, I only shop at the grocery I can walk to.

Yeah 1 day out of 365 would save the planet, we would totally stop global warming in one day. GREAT IDEA. I have a better Idea, lets all move to Singapore for a day and pretend like we saved the world. YAYYYYAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAA

Remember this one day could never be done, unless we could get Wal Mart on board. The fate of the world lies with Wal Mart agreeing to shut down for one day, then no one would have a reason to drive if Wal Mart was closed down. This is the funniest question I have ever seen.

Yea and the oil companies would love you. But if you got something started like that let me know, I can let the car rest for a day.

Smart concept. Wish we could get everyone on board and kick it off. I am in, just let me know when! Excellent post.
