Call comcast tech support and have then check your modem. They should be able to tell you if it is dropping packets.
I had comcast for years and now have dsl and never turned my modem or router off, with the exception of when the connection was lost and the modem needed reset.
Having to leave your modem off for "an Hour" is extreme. It shouldn't take more than a minute to reset. Even resetting both modem and router it should be only about two minutes total.

Good Luck

turning off modem at night can cause a router in a home network to loose the IP address and send out an error. Resetting the modem and then the router should resolve that issue. The wear and tear is minimal and most cable companies try this "powercycle" as a first troubleshooting step.
Not sure what the problem could be if there is no router involved though.

You don't want to unplug the modem unless it's storming. It's unnecessary, it won't save you any money and very little energy, and it's just a hassle to wait for it to turn back on the next day. However, Comcast's modems have been poorly made in my experience, so the problems may be unrelated.

It would be be safer for you to turn your modem off when not in use. Modems are very sensitive to surges and lightning strikes, so when not in use it is safer (you don't know when the next big storm is!) Modems are also more at risk to lightning strikes because they are connected to power and phone lines which lightning can travel down both.

Also, if you are having trouble and it is fixed by turning the modem off for an hour, I would suggest that the modem is probably having an overheating problem. Maybe you should try another modem and see if that works.

There is no reason for you to unplug your modem at night, and I would be willing to bet that it fixes your connection problems.

Your modem is specifically coded to an access list database. If your modem is disconnected for an extended amount of time it could take an hour or more for your modem to re-register itself on to their network.

We never turn off our modem. Just turn off your computer. I suggest only turning it off if you plan on leaving for a few days. Truthfully, we even leave it on when we go on vacation!! LOL!! I believe that leaving it on keeps the connection stable. I am sure it wastes a little electricity, but you have to figure that if you can't pay the electricity, how can you afford an internet connection.

that's odd. because all you have to do if you unplugg it (WHICH DOES SAVE ENERGY AND LOTS OF IT) is simply reset it and WAMO youre back in business in seconds. so i find it odd that youre modem goes out. you sure you have to wait an hour? if so, do you know how to reset it? that should take care of any problems you have rather easily. simply hit the little reset button (probably gonna need a pin or something to do so) and that should do it. but also, just unpluggin and replugging it in is good enough to reset it.

I have DSL, I never turn off my modem. Your modem has to reconfigure itself everytime you turn it off as it has to receive a new IP address from your ISP.

I would recommend that you turn your modem off every night because you save money, and it also saves energy.
