Its a joke, in a way- Irish twins means that the babies are less than one year apart (back in the "day" when we were all poor and well, um horny, we kept popping out babies) I know it sounds terrible, but this is what it is.
Congrats by the way- even though it will be hard for the first couple of years, it will be So Wonderful when your kids grow up so close together and have that special bond!

Enjoy! - And buy that awesome double stroller that you've been eyein'

It would not artwork that way. they may be closer than othe siblings yet no that may no longer the way it works. upload: to human beings coming decrease back and analyzing this. they're stated as "Irish twins" through stupid stereotype that the Irish have intercourse each and every of the time and come out little ones one after the different. 2 little ones that close mutually are considered "Irish Twins".

Many Irish people are Catholic. Traditionally speaking, Catholics not only don't believe in birth control, but also believe that all intercourse should be for the purpose of procreation.

Thus, many Irish families would have several kids. "Irish" refers to the fact that mothers in Irish Catholic families would give birth to children very often, and "twins" means that they are born within the same year, as twins are, although obviously real twins are born in a much smaller timeframe.

I'm an Irish twin, it means that your second is so close behind your first that your first won't be a year old yet. (My sister was born 11 days before I turned 1).

Irish catholics used to have alot of kids, even though there was no birth control way back when, they must have been one of the few groups who just had sex, at least a couple times every year! So all their kids were a year apart.

Your children are so close in age that they could be considered twins when they get older.
