It is the disco of our times.
It is dying. In some ways it is good; it is the end of the gawdiness, flashiness and excess. But at the same time it is the end of some of the live set hip hop that blended elements of jazz and old school R&B, which is unfotunate. I think hip hop killed itself. It portrayed a destructive lifestyle that eventually destroyed itself. The introduction, and later glorification, of money was the ultimate downfall. It has reached a point where each song is made with the sole purpose of making money, no matter how ridiculous, meaningless or unoriginal the song. It has grown ridiculous to a point of being a parody in itself.

I don't think that rap/hip-hop is dying. I think that it is becoming watered-down. All rap songs talk about how much money they have, the quality of girl they can get, or how much beef a person has.

its merely diversifying. popularity is a hard thing to measure in some respects, but in the end, its a load of crap. You should listen to music you like, not music that is popular
