with my theory, it would seem to put 'love' and 'control' on completely opposite ends of the spectrum, if your doing one, your NOT doing the other!

Usually, but not necessarily. It can be a situation where someone says "I love you... a lot" and the other person only likes them as a friend. The person who is madly in love with the other person, can kinda of persuade them to spend more time with them and maybe then they'll fall in love. Mostly, I believe you're right. I just needed to quibble on...

kinda harsh, but it is true in some aspects. but on they other hand, the person that loves less has a lot more to lose if the relationship ends.

I believe that is true, since they have less invested in the relationship, they have less to lose, especially if they aren't emotionally attached.
