you think: which cos over which sin equals 1, it is square-root of 2/ 2 for both, then you decide where the answer would be negative, which ends up being either 135 degrees or 315 degrees

There are two answers because in the second quadrant cos is negative and sin is positive(so negative answer) and in quadrant 4 cos is positive and sin is negative (another negative answer)

the cotangant is negative in quads 2 and 4.

an angle of 45 will give a cotangent of 1, but since it is negative and is in quad 2 or 4, the angles are either 135 or 315 degrees.

cot x = -1 = tan x

tan^(-1)x = -45° or 315° or 135°
.

cot=cos/sin
(-sqrt2/2)/(sqrt 2/2) or (sqrt2/2)/(-sqrt2/2) reference angle is 45 deg.
This would be in quadrant 2 or 4
So the angle would be 135 or 315 or 3pi/4 or 7pi/4

cot x = Cos x / sin x

Since it's equal to -1 you know cos x = - sin x

This happens at 3pi/4 and 7pi/4
