James Montgomery -born in 1771, died in 1854- wrote a poem "Columbus -Discovery of America" in about 1800.
It was part of the "West Indies" major poem.

Eminent Literary and Scientific Men of Italy, Spain, and Portugal ... By James Montgomery, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. Is another that details Columbus. 1837

I cannot locate the title of the section about Columbus.

The book is impossible to locate.

So, perhaps but he did write about what you asked.
Edit: later this date:

"Columbus and his times" -
1842
Published 1842
the Religious Tract ------Original from Oxford University
Digitized Apr 24, 2006

Baptist Missionary Society is also noted later, so what one needs to do is get the 1842 edition and check. Montgomery is noted but exactly how is not known by what I located. I do not live near Oxford or Harvard, but at least we know there is a link with this "Christian writer, poet" as he was described in his time.

So, some leads to follow.

Interesting question: very difficult. Almost let it pass as one cannot tell what level an inquiry is. By that I mean school, university, graduate school and such.

I do BBC4 research on such as your question.

Good luck.
