how do I get internet connection. I do not want to have a landline telephone. Is there any other way to get internet?

You don't want to have a telephone line, so DSL is out.

You could get a full-time access via Version, Cingular, etc. It's not the fastest, but reasonable, and cost more than cable. Nice thing is you can take it in your car or on trips.
