I have two iPods and my iTunes recognizes both of them. Have your brother create his own playlist so he can put all his songs into it. Then he can just download that playlist if he doesn't want your music too.

If its a new Ipod, it might be possible. I know normally it isnt.
All the music you download/import is automatically coded so that its linked to your laptop. All the songs in your Ipod are also linked to your laptop. Normally, if you try to hook up your brother's lpod, something will pop up saying something along the lines that the ipod is tied to a different itunes library and will give the option to wipe the ipod and link it to your library.

However, again, considering we're talking about a new ipod, it can't hurt to try. First make sure that itunes isn't set to automatically sync(otherwise all your music could end up on his Ipod), then try plugging in the ipod and moving music to it.

actually, there is a simple solution to this problem
don't make any different folders or anything, this is confusing.

instead, make a new playlist and title it your brothers playlist
got it?
ok, next have your brother transfer all the songs he does want from your library to the playlist. (you can hold the control key down and then click on multiple songs to select them all. then drag and drop them into the playlist place in the left column part.)

once he has all the songs on his playlist, have him insert his ipod. when the ipod screen comes up, go from the summary tab to the music tab
below the checkbox where it says sync music are two buttons
one says all songs and playlists
the other says selected playlists.
have him click on selected playlists, then check his playlist on the list.
sync the ipod, it will transfer only the songs on your brother's playlist to the ipod.
if he wants to add more songs, just drag more from library to playlist
problem solved. :-)
hope this helped

that's a tough question. i don't think so. but maybe. if you know how to connect iPods to your iTunes then try it.
it's never happened to me, so i don't know. but you should givit a try.
