You're both wrong, take it from me..I KNOW my music very well. It really depends on the genre when it comes to rock and roll in different eras. The 50's is where rock and roll blossomed. Most of it was formally known as "rockabilly". Then the 60's came along with new styles of rock and roll. Psychedelic is what the 60's were well known for in rock. There was also garage, and later in the decade, what they called then..heavy metal started with bands such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Jethro Tull. The 70's is really the only era of music that I would comfortably consider as "classic rock". In the mid to late 70's punk had finally evolved. In the early 80's punk definitely took off. 80's rock is usually hair bands which in that decade was formally known to be heavy metal. Also new wave had evolved which pretty much started the whole goth seen and industrial music. In the early 90's hair bands started to fade out and by the mid 90's grunge and alternative took over. Heavy metal kept on and industrial became more popular. After the 90's, music pretty much went down the crapper and was replaced with all the crap that's popular today. Does that help answer your question? :)
