Because of shorter duration of game passion is more concentrated in Football.
You can find still more passion and energy in horse races.

A football game is more fast-paced when compared to cricket. Football has less interruptions, has a neat flow to the game, and is finished in 2 hours. The pace of the game grips the spectators and thus creates more energy. Cricket on the other hand is more laid back and it has its own attractions. Twenty20 Cricket is a newer and shorter version of the game and even though it is exciting, cannot match a football game's excitement. Cricket is always enjoyable but cannot be compared with football's passion.

Football has large followers all over the world whereas popularity of cricket is restricted to only few countries. I do not think that even Twenty/20 cricket match will have same passion as Football all over the world.

football is a fast game and there is excitement in every second whereas as compared to football ,cricket is quite a slow and little boring game.No,i don't any game can match the passion and energy that football carries.

Its an exciting game but due to dominance of Australia there is not much fun left. No team is even close enough to beat Australia.
Also there are some stupid 11 captained by Rahul Dravid. His teams pathetic performence is also responsible for sudden decline in interest in Cricket in India

Circket and foot ball are two different games.
Foot Ball is more popular in many countries and circket only in few and circket is rated far ahead in countries like INDIA,Srilanka,Australia,Pakistan,Bangladesh.Newzeland,and even in south africa.
Foot Ball is more popular Because it is played and followed in many more countries than circket.
