I was around three years old. We had 2 horses. But one of them I loved very deeply. His name was Pongo. He was an appalossa, gelding, about 8 years old.
We moved up into Wisconsin when I was around 6 and, sense we moved on a lake (you can't keep horses on a lake) we kept them at my aunts house sense they also had horses.
But just about a nine months after we moved. My cousin when to go get them a bale of hay when she noticed that Pongo had a cut on his back right ankle and it was just squirting out blood like crazy. I can still picture it...
We did EVERYTHING we could to save him. But, money doesn't grow on tree's and it was obvious that he couldn't be saved. So we had him put-down.
I loved Pongo very much and I won't forget him. He was a very nice horse too and what a baby he was. He loved to be babied.
After that, my aunt & them decided to sell their horses. That means we had to sell Taffy too. Then we found out she died 2 years ago.
I might only be 13 but i member them.

And I hope that as you get older that you keep that love and passion for these fine animals who do so much for people, but may be abandoned by those people when they are too old or injured.

I am so sorry! I'm 13 too, but I've never had a horse. We are looking for one though and I'm around them almost every day (I'm working for riding lessons and horse lease.) I can't imagine how hard it must be to loose a horse!

Yeah, we just lost a horse frosty. He was 20 years old, pure white, and had been blind since he was three. He was used in lessons almost every day because he was sooo trusting. He got a bad infection that spread to his whole body and had to be put down, everyone misses him.
