I've had this laptop for almost 3 years now, and yesterday it seemed to be running fine when the screen suddenly went blank (black). I waited for it to come back but was eventually forced it to turn off (though I know it's bad for the comp), then tried turning it on again. It seemed to start fine and went to the login screen, but the screen went blank again while I was typing in my password. I continued typing it in anyway and when I hit enter, the logon chime sounded, so it seems (to someone technology illiterate like me) that my computer is turning on and logging on correctly, but the screen decided to shut itself off? I've tried it at least once more, and the same thing happened.

Thanks in advance for any help :).

edit: Thanks for answering so quickly, but it's a laptop, is there a way for me to connect another monitor and set it as the default without having to log on and access the control panel or whatever?

Borrow another monitor to see if the monitor went bad.
