You can recover your pc with everything in place.
First, try logging in as adminstrator, typically the password is blank.
If this doesn't work, you can download a knoppix cd image, boot from the cd, and reset the password. http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
Either way, you can reset the passwords.

i would try
1 - turn on monitor
2 - turn on computer
3 - constantly tap f8 - located at top of your key board
4 - when new screen comes up - use up and down arrows on your key board
to high light safe mode or last know good configuration etc
5 hit enter on key board
6 - windows should start or it will give options on how to start windows
system restore
1- click start at bottom of screen
2 - then click choose all programs
3 - then click pc help tools or could be in accessorys
4 - then click on system restore
5 - then click on restore to an earlier date or factory settings
6 - choose a date when it was working - or factory settings
7 - let it run it may take a while - follow directions - if any
8 - if does not work - restart THEN CHECK STATUS
choose destructive recovery as last resort you will have to look hard to find this option
i don"t know your computers options etc
BUT thats what it took to restore mine to get settings i wanted etc
BACK UP IMPORTANT THINGS TO CD NO MATTER WHAT OPTION(S) YOU CHOOSE

this is simple backdoor for WinXp
you must hav Xp CD
1. Enter your XP-CD to CD_ROM and restart your computer when you see counter tell you to "press any key press to Boot from CD" space bar or enter quickly..
if this not appeared email me there is way to set first boot device to CD-ROM
2. wait to prepare installation for few seconds.
3. when finished you will see 3 tools press "Enter" to set up new windows but dont care we will not install new Xp.
4. Agree of agreement by press F8.
5. Wait about minute to finish check disk and other
6. after check select your partition that contain you XP OS and then press 'R' on your keyboard to repair windows not install new one.
7. wait again................but about 2 minutes
8. it will restart computer after end of coping files.
10. leave your computer work until you see next screen called "Windows Installer" dont take out XP-CD or dont press any key.
9. when you see "Windows Installer" watch progress bar of bottom-left of your srceen...... when you see Installing Devices quickly press "Shift+F10" together but Shift first and hold pressing on shift when you press F10.
10. "CMD.EXE" window must be shown write this command in it "NUSRMGR.CPL" .
11. NOW you will see Account settings window like where is in Control Panel but here it does not to require password and you can see all Account and change passward without known old password....
FUNNY WAY HA.
12. if you want to rest Administrator password in step 10 write "Control userpassword2"....
13. After Modify and edit close Account Settings and leave windows to complete installation DONT STOP INSTALLATION ANY WAY!
