If you want to swim in the water, I'd suggest August or September. The water in the lake is only melted snow, and it's so deep that it doesn't warm up quickly (or much at all, really). September is often the best month of the year in California, as it still feels like summer, but most of the tourists have gone home. If you're there in the warm weather, I have to recommend taking the hike to Vikingsholm, at Emerald Bay. The hike is gorgeous, and takes you down (and back up) the mountain gradually, so it's not as strenuous as you'd think looking down from the top of the mountain!

If you want to ski, I'd have to say February...you might luck out and get a sunny, spring-like day even! If you have the chance, drive away from the lake, and ski at Squaw Valley...it's my very favorite ski destination!

Gambling can be done at any time of the year...But from mid-October to mid-March, you run the risk of getting rain or snow, so you'd want to stay inside. There are shuttles available to get from the local hotels to the casinos, but for the most part, you have to go outside to catch them!

For those who don't know where Lake Tahoe is, it's on the border between California and Nevada, just at the point where California bends eastward. It's a beautiful lake, nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains. With Nevada's gambling on one side, and the lovely snow-filled California mountains on the other, it's an ideal destination for all kinds of activities.

totally depends on what you want to do. If it's for skiing then winter is obviously the best time for that. If you want to do things like water skiing, hiking, and camping then summer is the best for that. If you want to gamble I don't think it really matters what time of year you go. You might want to add some details on what exactly you want to do then people can probably give you a better sense of when to go b/c it's both a winter and summer destination but for different reasons.
