I am attempting to write a song for a loved one. Not 100% sure what I am doing. Was looking for some advice and/or help.

Put all your thoughts down without rhyme or reason in a notebook. Pick your title from any of those ideas. Use the rest to try and put into rhyme for the song.
I usually write the words first then build a melody around it.
