learning can be both passive and active (you can be conscious and unconscious or direct/indirect with your learning) but I see a few problems with what you suggest.

first.. you won't know for sure how much of it you picked up until you need it.. and it is possible that you have very little aptitude for auditory learning.. in which case you would learn very little at all.. you may also not reach your deep sleep cycles.. which would hinder your learning and life in general.. as well as ability to function come test time.

In the end you get back what you put in.. if you look to cut corners expect cheep results.

read, study.. and if that's not enough using this as a supplemental learning technique on top of everything else would probably help you out.

I have heard that this works and I believe that some companies even sell learning aids based on this idea.

I think that, logically, it SHOULD work because the information is still being entered into your brain (via your sense of hearing) even though you are not consciously present to receive it and catalogue it. The sound is still travelling over your auditory nerves and being recorded in the part of the brain that receives sound impulses.

However, I notice that those answers posted ahead of mine that cite experience with it say that it requires a significant amount of repetition to be effective.
I think this is because when we hear or read something while in a waking state, we reinforce it with conscious thoughts about it - which, of course, produce and strengthen neural pathways in our brain. When we just play a recording into our ears while sleeping, there is no conscious thought to accompany its arrival in the brain. It still forms neural pathways, but I think they are far weaker and more tenuous than those that are formed with accompanying conscious thought, thereby making it necessary to repeat them over anover several times.

In my studies and using this very method, no...it takes more than one night...I got a 98 on the test after listening to the info for four days...without studing...but I found if you listen to it right before you sleep and again right when you wake, you retain almost 100% of info...hope it helps.

I've heard that too. Pretty intriguing but I would guess you would need to train your brain. There is a great book on this called the Einstein Factor by Win Wenger

I've never tried it. however, as with hypnotherapy discs, I think with repetition in your sleep, yes, it should work, let me know-I go back to college in July!
