Becuase i was trying to purchase a cake walk home rerding studio but its vista compatable do i really need vista ?
can i get it for free?
if not so how much does it cost?

You really don't need Vista, if its Vista compatible means that it works with Vista but not limited to it. it should say on the system requirements which OS it supports and XP should be one of them. If not, then if you bought your HP laptop at around October 2006 or later, then there's a chance that you received a free Windows Vista upgrade. The upgrade version of Vista is $99 for the basic.

Don't upgrade to Vista unless your pc was specifically designed for it. Most laptops choke on Vista.

Just because cakewalk is compatible doesn't mean Vista is required.

You can't get it for free.

I believe the low end version is going to run you close to $150.00 but you can get that info off of just about any software retailer's site, including Best Buy and Circuit City.

The next question is does your laptop have the horsepower to run it?

I WOULDNT RUN VISTA AND CAKE WALK ON A LAPTOP , IT WILL BE VERSLOW. VISTA TAKES ALOT TO RUN BY IT SELF!!!!!! STICK WITH XP/PRO AND CAKE WALK MORE STABLE ANYWAY!!

You cant upgrade and get it free it will cost you $200
