I'd like to get my motocycle license, but will be moving from the US to the UK sometime in the next few months. If I get my license in the US, will it be recognized in the UK? Will I have to go through additional testing in the UK?

Thanks!

You can drive on a non-European licence in the U.K. for a maximum of 12 months. You must pass a U.K. driving test within 12 months to be allowed to continue driving.

Full details are in the link below -

Using a US license in the UK makes no difference if it's a car or bike license.

You can drive or ride on your US license for a year, then you have to take a UK test.

Madness I know, you land...hire a car...drive on holiday having never driven a right hand drive, manual car, on the left hand side of the road, having never seen a roundabout or a sleepy English village in your life.....and just when you're starting to get the hang of it they say you are unsafe and need to take a test.

But they do it to allow the tourists in....if you plan to stay here you will need to take a test.

I don't know what part of the US you are from but it's a tougher test than I've ever had to take in the US.

Hi,
As far as I am aware, we have a reciprocal agreement between all EU countries and the USA.
I have used my UK licence, which covers bikes, having passed a UK test in the states a few times, and all is well.
I have also used my Omani licence in Greece, France, Belgium and the UK without problem.
The Hertz rental folks at JFK were a bit unsure, so out with the UK one. No prob.
I think however that there may be some time limitation though.
In that if you are UK resident with US citizenship, you may be asked to take a Brit riding / driving test after five years. but that is an unenforsible technicality.
If questioned as to your US lcence, all should be fine, but may be asked to apply for a UK one at the DVLA (Driver Vehicle Licencing Authority) for a small fee, using your US licence as credentials. No re-test required.
All the best with it,
Bob

If you get a license in the US you can ride on it for a year in the UK but after that you will have go through the UK testing process to get a UK licence. The US license may exempt you from CBT1 but check http://www.directgov.gov.uk/en/Motoring/index.htm

No. And yes. In that order.

Additional: I stand corrected by the answers below. Things must have changed in the past few years!
