i'm going to be taking the math SOL Test tomorrow and my teacher said that some probem u can't use the calculator.
so i was wondering how do you change a fraction into a percent without using a calculator? i know u have to divide the numerator by the denominator, but how do you do that without a calculator?

Set a proportion.
For example:
You want to find the % of 5/7
write 5/7 and x/100 since % is the value out of 100
Now all you need to do is cross multiply.
500=7x
500/7=71.43%

It's not too different from changing a fraction into a decimal (only you have to shift the decimal point because 1 becomes 100%, 0.5 becomes 50% etc)

Practice mental arithmetic

Practice short and long division by hand

Fraction -> Percentage goes

numerator X 100 / denominator

So 4/5 as a percentage = 4 x 100 / 5 = 400/5 = 80%

2/3 as a percentage = 2 x 100 / 3 = 0.6666666... x 100 = 66.666..
approx = 67%

7/4 as a percentage = 7x100/4 = 700/4 = 175%

To change a fraction to a percent, divide the numerator by the denominator. Then move the decimal point two places to the right. You will need to include the percent symbol at the end of the process.

Sample:

Change 4/5 to a percent.

4 divided by 5 = 0.8

Then, move the decimal point two places to the right.

So, 0.8 becomes 80.

Then add the percent symbol.

Final answer: 80%
