"Mackenzie King believed the crisis would pass and refused to send federal aid to the provinces and only introduced moderate relief efforts. The Liberals lost the 1930 election to Richard Bedford Bennett and the Conservatives. Bennett, a successful western businessman, campaigned on high tariffs and large scale spending, but as deficits increased he became wary and cut back severely on federal spending. With falling support and the depression only getting worse Bennett attempted to introduce policies based on the New Deal of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the United States, but this was largely unsuccessful. [...] Bennett's perceived failures during the Great Depression led to the re-election of Mackenzie King's Liberals in the 1935 election."

"Mackenzie King implemented some relief programs such as the National Housing Act and National Employment Commission."

"In his second term [1926-1930], King introduced old-age pensions."

"King's Liberals were returned to power once more in the 1935 election. The worst of the Depression had passed, and King implemented relief programs such as the National Housing Act and National Employment Commission."

Yes the great depression did affect Canada, in fact it affected Canada probably as hard as anywhere in the world. The result was widespread misery, unemployment and a certain degree of social unrest. Saskatchewan was hardest hit of all as grain prices collapsed and drought ravaged the prairies. The government did very little beyond hoping the Depression would end soon and provided an inadequate amount of "relief" (welfare).

One thing the US government learned was its part in regulating the market and its effect on the economy. This lesson is still used today. When the economy is nearing a recession, it dumps more money into the economy in the form of projects (bridges, jobs, etc) or goes to war. Either way it gives people jobs, people spend the money they are making, and the economy evens out again.

My GOD... they don't even teach real history in CANADA.

The Great Depression was first felt in the U.S. and started in 1929 and lasted until the beginning or WW2 in 1941
