A member of some old family "friends" keeps calling my mother whenever she is experiencing family problems. The woman blames my mother for various reasons and such. My mother has not done anything, and she becomes so emotionally distressed after the calls. My mother wants to change numbers, but I want her to file a restraining order. I don't believe this woman would physically harm my mother, but this harrassment is both annoying and emotionally grating for everyone. What should we do? Thanks.

yeah, file a report and get the restraining order, then change phone numbers and have the new number "private" also, you can purchase and option thru the phone company that allows you to block a number, it would be worth the $4.

First of all, a piece of paper signed by a judge, is nothing more than that- a piece of paper call your city attorney make an apt, to sit and speak directly with him or an associate to begin the process, a restraining order doesnt mean jack, when someone's mind is fixated on a cause they generally dont dismiss that cause immediately from their mind. Good luck

Generally you can only get a restraining order if in immenent danger. You could consult with an attorney and see if he/she could draft a letter telling this woman not to contact your Mother again and that if she does you will take her to court for harassment. This is usually enough to get someone to stop the harassment.

Have your mom log the time and nature of the calls. If it constitutes as harassment, you could very well get a restraining order. However, "this woman keeps bugging me" will not be enough to get the courts to grant one.

You can get a restraining order!

Emotional abuse, most times, is worse then physical!
