I have a female classmate who is Korean. Her birthday is tomorrow and I would like to know what customs/traditions are common in Korea for birthdays. I know of a baby's 100th day and the 60th birthday, but what more. I believe she is turning 20.

Usually a traditional Korean birthday involves a meal with sweet red bean rice, and other dishes including miyuk (seaweed) soup, beef rib stew, and others.

But that's usually just among families these days. If it's for just a friend, birthdays are pretty much the same as in the west. (Except when you're going out to eat or whatnot, the birthday person takes care of everything. Splitting the bill is unheard of in Korea)
