I use Toshiba laptops, and Samsung desk tops. Setting up a printer is always the same with any brand of laptop or desktop.
First make sure that you have the printer electric cable plug into your outlet. This will turn on your printer and you will see a light showing on the printer that the power is on. (I have a green light).
Do not plug the cable into your laptop. I repeat to do not plug the cable into your laptop. Leave the cable out, place the CD that comes with the printer into your CD drive, open and follow the instructions on the Cd.
The wizard on the Cd, will guide your through the installation of the printer. When the wizard get to where it says, connect the cable to your laptop that is when you want to connect the cable.
Then allow the wizard on the Cd, to complete the installation. When the installation is complete the installation will say "installed". You can eject your Cd from your tray.
And you can type something on Microsoft Word, etc. etc. and test your printer. Make sure that you have your ink cartridge installed. You will have two, one black and one color. You can run with only black ink if you desire and leave the color empty. Or you can put them both in.

Install the software that the printer came with, during the installation it will prompt you to plug in the cable, from your labtop to the printer, as soon as the labtop identifies it, your good to go.
If you didn't get a software CD, type in the name of your printer at the www.yahoo.com (search engine) and type in your printer name and after it put download driver. look for the driver and download it, then install.

A CD must have came with the printer. So run the CD, hook up the USB from the labtop to the printer, and install it. If all goes well, your printer works.
