False negatives are WAY more common than false positives. Here's a link to a great website that explains everything you need to know about home pregnancy tests.

A false negative is usually the result of testing too early, before your body has build up enough HCG to register on a test. However, I have heard of cases where the woman is over a week late and still gets a negative result on a HPT until she goes to her doctor for a blood test which proves to be positive.
You should test again in a few days and if the result is still negative and you have not started your period yet, get into your doctor for a blood test.

A falso negative can happen, especially if you tested earlier than your first day of your period. You may have just tested too early, are you feeling any symptoms yet? Its sux waiting to take a test, i know, i have been doing it for a few months now. Good luck to you!
