Anyone have a phone number for microsoft that I can call for vista support that doesn't cost $56?

Don't hold yer breath! (Like Norton and some others too...) it's our ol' buddy Armanda Leg for help...
Your best bet is to search around for groups/forums of folks who've had similar problems. (There's plenty such forums. Google even has something called a Groups search which searches for such forums.) Don't make the mistake I did, and post yer question right away. Search through the group, carefully when you join, and likely, you'll find your question already answered, in (surprisingly) minute detail by someone who's already had the exact same problem!
