I have DSL and originally had it wired directly to my CPU. I recently set up a Wireless network and I have seen my internet speed drop significantly. Any ideas??

If you saw the internet speed drop on your computer because you are connecting wirelessly now, there are a few things that could have gone wrong.

- Some routers have issues with certain computers. Example: My Dell laptop does not like my router, so it actually connects to the internet at a different speed. It's a known issue, and to resolve it I had to lower the mbps on my router.

- You could have a compatibility issue between B/G technology and your computer

- Depends on how far away you are from the router. Some are very powerful and go rather far, while some you have issue sitting next to it, it just depends sometimes

- Settings on your router might have to be optimized

- Try reinstalling your wireless drivers on your computer

Wireless can cause slower performance if you are far from the wireless router, but at close range there should be no noticeable difference as wireless under good conditions is still faster than the broadband itself. A poor antenna location at either end, even changing the antenna angle, can affect performance.

thats the bummer of wireless sometimes it will slow down if more then one person is on the wireless side of it . since it can only pump out so much information across the airwaves you get slow downs, and lag. i would direct wire the computer to the modem, and use the wireless for other computer users in the house .. then atleast you get the wired speeds on one computer.

You have to remember that wireless runs at half the speed of wired. No matter what you do you won't be able to go as fast as you would through the ethernet cable.

Maybe unplugging the router and modem for about 15 seconds would help. Also, a simple restart or network connection repair might do the trick.

although, unless you're running Pre-N wireless.. the wireless will always be slower than your wired, regardless if it's being used or not... just the speed of the connection, not the computers.

Make sure you have enough ram to run the added software. I had the same problem and it was a shortage of ram.
