I just bought several cute gnomes for the front yard and they cost a fortune. Now, I'm afraid some teenage punk is going to steal them in the night. Any suggestions for somehow securing them to the ground? Thanks a lot!

It depends on what the gnomes are made of. If they will support it, drill a hole in the bottom of them, place a foot long piece of re-bar in the bottom and then cement them into the ground. I wouldn't advise doing this if they are made of ceramic, but if they are plastic, you should be fine.

I had some punk teenagers steal my gazing globe and smash it in the streets a few blocks away. Why can't people respect one another?

I just wouldn't put them in the front yard. If they are ceramic or concrete they will be smashed especially if they go to steal them and find them secured to the ground. I know someone whole stole a Virgin Mary statue out of a church garden, poor little gnomes wouldn't stand a chance.

If you lived in a retirement community filled with people who mostly respect other people's property, fine, but not today. Just too many jerks about......and their kids are worse.

The concrete block is a good idea. You could also install a security system that goes off when someone enters your yard at night.

pour a concrete block 1 foot square at least just below the surface of the lawn and sit the gnomes feel in the cement

Actually, no one steals them, at dusk, they come alive and walk off on their own.
