Definitely! Thousands of teens ruin their lives because they don't. Did you know that 1 in 5 sexually active college students has 1 or more STD? And that's only a few years short of college.
And pregnancies. They have been known to kill girls, and even if the girls have the babies, they have to take care of them; there go your dreams. And don't even get me talking about abortion. Every time a girl has an abortion, there goes 50% chance of her ever having a baby again. 1 abortion could sterilize you, even kill you; or if it goes well, you might be ok. Not likely, but maybe. 2nd abortion you're pretty much garauntied to be sterile. No children, ever.
Don't get pregnant? no STD? The emotional side effects have driven teens to suicide, and usually relationships- despite the popular belief- go downhill from there. They usually break up shortly after.
You're ok emotionally, you wore a condom, you're safe, right? WRONG!!! There are many reports of girls getting pregnant while wearing condoms, and semen is at least 10 times bigger than a virus, which means over 10 times harder to get past a condom, which means you're over 10 times more likely to get an STD.
Besides, guys respect girls who remail abstinent more. In a recent survey, guys said that they were more likely to marry girls who were still virgins than otherwise.
I've been focusing on girls till now, but what about guys? While the pregnancy thing is off for you, you still have the financial burden of careing for the child if you live in many states of the US. You have to pay child support, which means you have to have a job, and pay for a baby instead of a cool car.
So, tough choice, hmmmm?

While I agree with you I also feel that it's not just teenagers. Look at all the people who have babies and do not take care of them...............adults! I think that we need to look at society as a whole. If one is married or in a committed relationship and loves children then have a dozen, if not then remain abstinent or have your tubes tied.
This is a great question and more people should focus on problems that do effect our society.
God Bless and take care!

I agree. Sex has so many consequence beyond the obvious. Yes there is the risk of pregnancy but there is also disease and all the emotional stuff. Sex is something, in my opinion, that should be shared by two people that are mature enough to handle it and that are in a deep loving committed relationship for life.

I agree with what you are saying. I mean though i am not a virgin i still am celibate. But the key word is SHOULD. Teenagers should practice abstinence but the majority don't, and don't use protection either. I mean but who are we to judge someone, the only thing we can do is support what we believe in.

I agree, but not just because of teenage pregnancy or STDs. Most teen relationships are not permanent. It is very hard for a young person to give their whole heart to someone, only to have it broken. It's much better to wait until you are more of an adult, and can make better and more responsible decisions about whom you have relationships with.

YES OF COURSE! Teenagers think that its all fun and games, but its not. Its not even just teen pregnancy. When they get married, they will have to live with the fact that they can't give their everything to their husband or wife, because they gave a part of themselves to another person.

Yes, teens should practice that. Society today thinks sex before marriage is cool. It's definitely not. We were talking about this subject in one of my classes today and I strongly believe saying no is the right thing.

In an ideal world they would, and I truly wish they would. However since they don't, and they never will, they need to be taught how to be responsible about it to avoid diseases and pregnancy. People think that teaching about protection encourages them to have sex, but in reality they will have sex with or without having that education, and we all pay the price for the ones who have sex without the knowledge and confidence to practice safe sex.

ABSTINENCE is the way to spiritual fulfilment. You know you don't need sex to occupy your time at all! So stop those horny girls and guys with a gun or something. You should know that even with an age limit for sexual intercourse, stupid teens and even tweens still do it? Yuck. (Imagine a 12 yrs old, gosh I'll stop here)

of course they should. Most teenagers are too immature to know what they really want anyway. Most teenagers I've talked regret having sex that early anyway. And I'm tired of seeing 14 year old girls on welfare with babies!
