People get really offended when I refer to the "neocons" like they think it is some kind of bad name...

NeoCons actually named themselves as such. It simply means new conservative... and they are very different from old school conservatives...

That would be like me getting offended because someone called me a liberal...

What are your thoughts on this?

Is neocon a bad name? And whose fault is it?

Neocons, in my opinion, are wolf in sheep's clothing. They tend to be socially conservative and economically liberal, abandoning true conservative dogma for the sake of a personal agenda. Bush is a prime example, growing our government like a prize halloween pumpkin and spending like money is no object. Those aren't true conservative values (small government, limited spending).

The term "neocon" has become a slur because of the anti-conservative actions of those considered to be neocons.

It is irritating because to many it is a slur against conservative Jews. Around here it just seems to mean someone not in favor of an immediate pull out of Iraq.
