before I answer DO NOT USE WD40 as it is FLAMMABLE.
it sounds like its just working harder, in which case if the noise is getting to you, replace the fan with a low noise or silent cooler, or for a higher end system use a heatpipe or liquid cooling system (see the supplier below)

its good to hear some noise, however it sounds like the fan is failing, and needs to be replaced before long. a failure of a cpu cooling fan will cause the computer to cook the cpu , making the computer a useless paper weight. there is built in protection for the cpu however, and this over heat dont kill computers as much anymore. if i were you i would open the side of the case, and look inside , is there 3 inches of dust in there ?? get a can of air, and blow out the dust from everywhere, inside the fans, under the fan on the cpu , in the fins of the cpu cooler heat sink. if the cpu fan is the one making noise then you can see that it just unscrews, and a replacement goes right back in there. just take the old fan to the computer store, and they will get you a correct replacement.

The CPU heat sink underneath the fan is clogged with dust. The higher CPU usage a program uses, the hotter the processor will get... this will cause the fan to work twice as hard. Get a can of air and blow the dust out of the heat sink fins.. guaranteed to quiet down.
I had this issue with several customers computers.. i downloaded a software thermometer.. the CPU ran almost 100 degrees cooler after it was cleaned.

The fans start when the harddrive gets too hot. Open up your computer and remove the fan. Oil the rotors of the fan. Little WD-40 will do the trick.

sounds like a fan is dying just replace it, unless its the power supply fan then get a new power supply
replace the fan dont use wd-40 liquids and pc's dont mix
because it starts silent sounds like berring are going and as it picks up speed it will make an awful racket, then just replace it they are about $10, a small price to pay to insure you pc, and a can of air wont hurt either

This is because the processor heats up under load, which is what happens when you load a highly intensive program like games. The fan speeds up to save the processor.

It might not be running until you open those... Peel the sticker off of the fan the squirt some wd-40 in the middle of it. REPLACE the sticker and check it again. IT should go away. If it doesn't, replace the fan.
