well i meant which films have impacted soceity in a positive light, schilders list just shows people what they presumed that the holocaust was hell and sh#tty. Lord of the rings has meaning and message behind it as was meant by J R R tolkien, it is a very relevant to todays world, ok its fantasy as such but the whole thing is far more than a mere fantasy, pop phenomenom as you put it. The ring in the story signifies power and the evils that it can bring, the story is truly great.

Lord of the Rings? How has that impacted society other than having people spend their money to see the movie. I think the biggest impact made by any movie is Schindler's List. It really woke people up to the horrors that were suffered by the jewish people in the internment camps set up by the Germans.

I don't know how Lords of the Rings have impacted society, except for its commercial impact and its pop culture status. Same with movies like Titanic. Sure, you can argue that it caused a world-wide sensation, made millions and influenced movie making in terms of special effects and such. But did it really have much significance on society at large???

Movies like Schindler's List, The Pianist and other films dedicated to telling the stories of the holocaust has sure made an impact on modern individuals, especially those who were not educated during those times. Same with Hotel Rwanda. How many of us really knew about the genocide? Go back a bit and look at some Sidney Poitier films like In The Heat of the Night or Look Who's Coming to Dinner for breaking the race barrier and engaging audiences in a dialog. Or look at some of Oliver Stone's Vietnam war films that took a critical look at how that particular war impacted the world, including the men and women who fought in the mess. There are so many movies that discuss societal issues at hand. Lords and Matrix are pop culture phenomenons that are entertaining. But that's about it.

I cannot believe that you have dismissed the holocaust like that.

Lord of the Rings has had a big impact on the film industry but I doubt it has had much of an impact on society.

Also the Lord of the Rings was full of misogynistic views.
