Given that the vast majority of citizens have been watching their standard of living plummet for 3 decades now, and that the middle class is disappearing, I'd say losing.

For the very, very few people who increasingly own everything, I guess in a sense they're winning.

But I wonder how happy they'll really be when we're all just their serfs, and they start to go after each other?

Speaking economically or otherwise, the USA and its citizens better win the economic war because it they dont who will. The Chinese you say. I understand and wish for the Chinese to lead the way with us not against us. But who knows. Maybe the Chinese don't want to lead the way with us. Well, ok. Let them lead the way without us. We will still be going our own way unless we lose this so called economic battle and stop working and producing and stop being also the leaders sharing our hard earned situation with those who want.

Economics is not a battle with other countries, but a battle with its own politicians. The Smoot-Haulley act in the 1930s (which restricted free trade) as well as taxes caused the Great depression. As long as we elect rational free traders and anti-socialist politicians, we will do well economically.

The fact that we have a large trade deficit with China means that Americans are buying cheap products and enhancing our lifestyle. Its all about quality of life... Why would we restrict trade and want our products to be triple the cost- we would all suffer.

Think about the economy: low unemployment, steady GDP growth, low interest rates, low inflation, rising stock market. These are the facts- how could anyone be negative about it unless they have an agenda.....

We are slowly losing the economic battle to China, Russia, India and Brazil. Their GDP growth is much larger than the US. In forty years those economies will be larger than the US and EU combined.
