Yes. It is perfectly fine. I went to my daughters doctor with complaints of my girl not sleeping well, crying, and in pain because of teething. She told me to use baby tylenol and orajel, blah blah, I already did that.. I asked what she thought of whiskey on her gums. She laughed, and said yes, back in the old days that is what they used! She said that obviously you dont let her DRINK from the bottle, just dab the end of your finger into some, rub gently on her gums, and voila! My dad used it on me, and all his kids.. I tried it. Just the tip of my finger, and it was totally ok. Whitney slept the whole night, and woke up just fine, and rested. Orajel, and that stuff never worked for us.. I think it depends on your own wants and needs. People are scared and think your baby will die... not true! YOu obviously don't give it to your baby in a bottle.. just a dab of it. If you people think your parents didn't do it to you, think again..

You can either do that or buy some teething tablets. Teething tablets work fantastically. They are called Hyland's teething tablets. Other than that, you can give her teething liquid or jelly.. OR you can make a natural solution with grapeseed oil and a few drops of chamomille concentrate.

Many people put rum, bourbon, or even tequila on the baby's gums and I have heard of no harm coming from that. What they do is wet their finger with the drink and then run on the gums. I'm more likely to give the teething tablets or natural solutions, but if you have none of this and you want to do the bourbon, go ahead, your daughter will not get drunk.

People used to do this all the time back in the old days, but I don't think it's a good idea. She could swallow some of the bourbon, which is not really a healthy thing. They make special teething medications for babies, and you'd be better off using one of those, because they are safer.

In the old days before we had teething tablets, tylenol and orajel...yes...our ancestors used booze to ease our pain.

The good news...we lived...

The better news...now we have alcohol free alternatives that are just as effective without the risk of alcohol poisoning.

If I were you...I'd skip the bourbon...and buy some teething tablets and oragel....they'll work just as well as the booze and it will probably even be cheaper and it will definately be safer.

Good Luck

**Sergio...drunk babies...you're halarious.

My son was exactly the same, but managed to get an ear/throat/chest infection with each newly cut tooth :-( I use nelsons teething granules and they are great. Try giving her some cucumber, cold or raw carrot just to suck and teethe on, you can also get the Nuby food net things that u can put fruit in and they cannot choke, this may soothe her gums a little.. Good luck!

NO NO NO!!!

Babies can die from alcohol poisoning from even a few drops! Don't do it!!!

Cold works best. Keep a cold wet washcloth in the fridge in a baggie and let her gnaw on it. Frozen bagels work well too. My coworker swore by those big hard salty pretzels for her son - the salt cut his gums so the teeth would come thru sooner.

Ambesol and orajel can burn tender gums, so avoid those if possible.

Why don't you try teething tablets or orajel. Or give her something to chew on that is firm such as a piece of virgin leather from a shoe shop. You have to make sure that it has not been treated w/chemicals. We did this for our son and his teeth popped right through. He chewed and chewed on it, but within a day they were through and he had relief.

baby orajel is wonderful, for my second daughter i had to get the extra strength overnight version, but please don't resort to using bourbon! there's also gripe water, most drug stores like osco carry it. or just look for anything containing benzocaine, which is the dentist's recommendation.

any pediatrician or dentist will tell you not to use whiskey or bourbon or any other kind of intoxicant on your baby's gums!

sure do it if you want your baby to die from alcohol poisoning, yes they did it back itn the day but ever wonder why they stoped doing it?
Some other home remedies are now known to be dangerous, says McCoy. For example, putting alcohol on an infant's gums to numb teething pain is "actually poisonous," she says. "One should never rub whiskey on a baby's gums."
