I reccently bought a book on tropical fish tanks i scanned a page out of it and uploaded it here it is:

Arent these tanks REALLY overstocked or is this normall, They seem like the should be 5-6 times bigger,

I would see them as over stocked. I would also hesitate to take advice from any book that puts tiger barbs with fish like gouramis, guppies, and angels...Tiger barbs are well known to be highly aggressive and should not be housed with semi-aggressive or community fish.

Assuming proper filtration, I don't see a problem with the fish load at all for scheme 2. I would question the angels in scheme 1 simply because they would out grow the tank. Notice they do say small angels, I guess they assume you will trade them in from time to time.

The barbs shouldn't be a problem in a group and in a well stocked tank like those.

most times not all but when you see pictures in books like that the fish are in display set ups that are made to look cool to get others to want to try and do a set up like that. some times there only in the tanks long enuff to snap a few picture then back into another tank.
but some pics are from private breeders that keep there tanks like that all the time.
