yesterday i got a gold barb so now i have two gold barbs..
i look at the smaller one today and it has white spots on the end of its fins....

im thinking of transfering it to the smaller 3.5 gallon tank till it gets better. the only medication i have is Maracyn
cuz im assuming that it has fungus.
it eats, its active

so how can i treat it without hurting it?
all my previous fish pasesd away after i used maracyn so im extreamly hesitant about using it. especially on such a small fish.

First you need to be sure what disease you have in the tank. Check carefully as small white dots could be ich or could be the start of other diseases. If the patches look fuzzy and cottony that indicates fungus.

You shouldn't treat fungus with Maracyn! Maracyn is an antibiotic and will not effectively treat a fungus infection it's for bacterial infections and fungus is not a bacterial problem. Specific medications are sold for fungus treatment. Go to the same store and by the fungus treatment from the same company that makes Maracyn. The bottle will look similar to the Maracyn package. Just treat as the package recommends and it should clear the fungus in a week.

I would suggest you treat the fish in the tank and not move it.

That is the good medacine your using so Id read it to make sure your using it properly. But I wouldnt separated them because it will be alot of stress. Thats the most stressful time in a fishs life to move. Plus youll need to treat the other tank anyway to be sure the other fish doesnt catch it. Its already in the water.

Make sure you dose it appropriately. If you dose too much they will die. But first you need a larger quarantine tank to treat it in. A 10 gal is best, but a 5 will do. Most meds are given in doses for 10 gal increments, by trying to cut this down for a 3.5 or 5 gal tank you risk overdosing your fish. Good Luck!
