I heard somewhere that the number 87 is significant in the Harry Potter fandom. Not the books, the fandom. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this significance might be?

To the person who wanted my source, I just heard someone mention it on a forum. They said it was really obscure, so maybe it was just in their own little niche community.

As a member of the Harry Potter fandom (staff member on a well-known Harry Potter fan website) I can definitely tell you that the number 87 does not have a huge significance to the Harry Potter fandom as a whole. There may be an inside joke somewhere in a small faction, but as far as the fandom as a whole, there is no significance.

I agree with the previous answerer. I'm also a member of the HP fandom (both fanart and fanfiction) and as far as I know, there is no significance for this number.

if you don't mind my asking, what is your source?
