Chemical imbalances in their brians due to puberty.

For example, depression is a scientifically proven chemical imbalance, not just a "mood" or "phase" people go through.

There are drugs that can help even out the imbalance, but you don't want to mess with your body's natural happenings, it just can't end up well.

At that age the brain is in full swing and growing so fast that what was perceived as reality today will not exist tomarrow. And I have known some teens who have had some very healthy mood swings. What else but to stay the course and not let them push you away no matter what.

all humans go through stages of development from the time we are born to the time we die. unfortunantly, teens are plauged by sudden mood swings or being overly dramatic because their brains are going through mental growth. teens can't help the way they act because it's all biological. i know it sucks but it'll get better in your late teens, early 20s.
