can you cancel a contract with an internet provider before 12mths if so how?

You can but will still have to pay the remaining months as you are contract bound. Phone or use the internet to find the method of cancelling as ISP's are all different.

Read the agreement. There usually are ways to get out. Sometimes if you move, are disatisfied with the service, or upgrade, you can get out. But your contract guides what those options are.
