I have a nine month old son and he loves to play outside in his swing. We live close to a creek and there always seems to be mosquitos everywhere. I have previously just kept him pretty covered up, but seeing as it almost summer time that won't be as good of an option. I know there are tons of baby sunscreens out there, but I haven't seen any bug repellent. I did see some sunscreen with mosquito repellent in it, but it said for "the whole family", not really specifying if it was baby safe. Does anyone know of any products that may be useful?

Actually I was just reading about this in Parenting Magazine a few days ago...it says that children 2 months and up should use a repellent that contains Deet, which should be applied no more than once daily and washed off at the end of the day. It says that the higher the concentration of Deet then longer it lasts, and is safe for infants, as long as it's only applied once a day and washed off.

OFF has a new product that is specifically for children. I used it on my little girl when she was 6 months old and she did fine. It is available at WalMart by the OFF repellant. It is just OFF fro children. It works great. Also another great thing is AVON sensitve spray. Check Avon, they make all that kind of stuff for kids. We live in Florida next to a swamp and there are always bugs and mosquitos. These are the things that I have tried on my children and they have worked. Good Luck.... Have a great summer

My son loves being outside as well. When he was little, I used Skin So Soft from Avon. He didn't have any negative effects from it. Just make sure you don't use anything with DEET in it, and it should be fine.

I would have to say that the bug spray is a lot better for him than malaria or west Nile virus.

i do believe they make some specifically for babies, you just gotta keep looking.

If you are going to be stationary try citronella candles or some of the other off area effect products.

As long as you don't put it on his hands or face, or any other body part he puts in his mouth (like toes) you can use any children's formula.
