When I turn on the computer, I get a message that says it doesn't recognize a picture on startup, then it reboots and starts the same cycle over again. Any ideas on how to get past it to find out what the problem is?

On start up, a menu will appear then go away within seconds, asking to go to boot menu and other stuff...their should be one that allows you to go into safe mode (disables pretty much everything) and lets you load windows like normal so you can change the settings. Hope this helps.

Have you cleaned the dust out of the can?
We've been having trouble with a reboot here, and finally I suggested my fixit-guy husband check for dust in the hard drive. Sure enough the dust was 2 inches thick on the CPU fan. Once we vacuumed that dust out, the computer started right up.
Next find your system recovery discs. They should be the initializing cd's included in your software package when you bought the computer. Put them in, then retstart your computer. You should be allowed to reboot your system from a previously established date (before problems with that picture started) using those system recovery dics. If you are able to reboot, try performing a a registry scan (you can try using programs downloaded from the internet - try: www.liutilities.com/products/campaigns/plib/rb ) to verify your program links and repair broken or unused program links. That might help get rid of the problem picture at startup. Try also to identify and uninstall programs you have not been using in the past few years. That will clear up some RAM space and allow the computer room to fully reboot.
