I got into a bad hosting situation through a stupid barter network. After a year, I wanted to switch the site over to my current host, where I still have free space. I changed the DNS servers but host #! insists there is a secret word that the barter host has to give him. The barter host claims he never heard of having to give a secret word. He has already done some other shenanigans so I don't trust him. Is there such a thing as a secret word in order to switch domain hosts?

You need to provide your existing domain registrar with your new IPSTAG (Your new registrar should provide you with that). After you give them that then they should de-tag your domain and your new registrar will tag it and assign it to themselves. Once done you should be able to see it under your account

hope that helps
