"Western" as in cowboys, not "Western" as in "America & Europe", in case there's any confusion.

My vote has to go with John Ford's "My Darling Clementine"--a romanticized version of the story of Wyatt Earp and his brothers, Doc Holliday & the Clantons, it's a soul-stirring piece of movie history, with literally dozens of unforgettable moments and sequences, great dialog and action. This movie, for me at least, is the mythic West, in feel, in setting, in characters and themes.

Running a close second would be "The Searchers", "Rio Bravo", "Shane", "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", "The Outlaw Josey Wales", "Red River", "Tombstone" and "Silverado"!

Well "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" has always been pretty high on my list. However "Serenity" has a Western feel with a little mix genre fun in sci-fi. I would suggest "Serenity" before any other cowboy films out there.

Tombestone

THE western. I haven't seen most of the others that people are naming, but I would still bet there isn't ANY acting in them even CLOSE to equal to Val Kilmer's potrayal of the infamous Doc Holliday.

He should've won about 5 or 6 oscars for his actinig in that movie.

Damn, everyone has missed the best western of them all . . . .

"Unforgiven"

Then, of course, "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly"

Props to the person who answered "Serenity".
It was a great movie and I know Joss Whedon was really upset when Fox cancelled his sci-fi western.

The DVD is great, by the way.
