Dried shrimp are ok as a treat, but not a good steady diet for your turtle (kind of like potato chips for you). Your best bet is manufactured turtle pellets - they're designed with your pet's nutritional needs in mind. In the wild your turtle would have eaten live fish, insects and pond weeds mostly.

The main diet for pond turtles like Red-ear Sliders is 'meaty fish food'- frozen/thawed or live things like worms, krill, shrimp, insects, snails, etc. Most of the 'meaty' stuff in the freezer for fish at the local pet shop will work well. You can also try some organ meat like beef heart.

You can use good pellets for about 25-50% of the diet if you wish.

As the turtles get older- over about 4"- you can add some veggies- mostly leafy water plants, dark leafy greens, etc.

Small feeder fish are OK but will rarely be a big part of the diet.

Pale head lettuce, fruit, lunch meats, etc. are not good for pond turtles. Besides- where would it get apples in the wild?

My RES also likes dry shrimp, but I also feed her turtle pellets. YOu can get them at the pet stores. I have read that some turtles will eat veggies but not all turtles. There is one canister of turtle food that has 3 different foods in one container; shrimp, pellets and something else. That's the one my RES eats. Also look in internet for add'l info.

Pellets and keep giving her dried shrimp but as a treat, also they are mostly Vegitarians so they like fruits and vegitables, no carrots or lettace, lettace is 99% water and it just gives her more calories that she doesnt need. myn likes grapes, apples, mongos, oranges and cantolope.

ummm.... i dont know but if your turtle is about 4+ inchs long, you might want to consider fedding her feeder gupies, they are only about 15-20 cents at the pet store.

hope that helped.

Krill is good, mine actually likes eggs, dont ask why but somehow we figured that out. You may want to try some of those pellets with calcium because they always need extra calcium for their shell.
