A co-workers wife was told by a fertility facility that they couldn't see the sack of the fetus and she should abort because it could be in the tube and possibly destroy the tube.
Then she read online that you don't see the sack until beta levels are at 1,000. Which they aren't yet.
Does anyone have any idea whose right; what was posted online or the fertility clinic?

She is 5 weeks pregnant. They've given her methotrexate to terminate, but now the beta levels doubled over 1,000 3 days after the shot. Now they want her to get another shot. Does she even have a choice at this point?

I think your co-workers wife should see a doctor and ask these questions.
This is why doctor's usually schedule the first OB appointment to be after 6-8 weeks--the heartbeat, the baby, and more are visible.

If her levels are not at 1,000 and should be then she will need to terminate. Sac's don't just appear they develop they should be seen at 5 weeks which is when i saw mine or a little before that. My point is they should have seen something. I have had 3 miscarriages 2 never got heartbeats 1 did and it stopped. The fertility doctor's are usually not wrong about fetal development (though as a broken hearted mother I wish they where). I have waited before and held out hope thinking they where wrong but they where right. It sucks and hurts my heart to hear about women suffering loss especially women like me who really want children.

If the baby was in the tube, then could see it on the sonogram. They would look in the tubes. I've never heard of a doctor tell a patient to get an abortion without knowing for sure. You can see the baby by 7 weeks. I saw the head, and arm and leg buds at 7 weeks. By 5 weeks you can you see the sac.

You generally can see the gestational sac by 5 weeks from LMP in a uterine pregnancy. If it isn't visible by then, the US should be repeated in 1 week. You don't say how far along this person is, so it's hard to be real specific. In a ectopic pregnancy, levels may not rise appropriately, delaying the time it would take for the levels to hit 1000, and increasing risk to the mother if it is ectopic.

I'd trust the fertility clinic. Online research is great, but not always accurate or reliable. I'd recommend she get another opinion with a doctor not associated with that clinic. If she's not showing any symptoms of ectopic pregnancy (tube), then she may have time to get that opinion.

I personally would wait or get a second opinion. I would think that if they could see the sack in the uterus they would be able to see it in the tube by ultra sound.

If it were me, I would get a second opinion, my cousins wife had a tubal pregnany, but did not find out until it was almost too late, luckily she went to another doctor that was able to explain everything to her and she had surgery and is ok now....her first doctor was not very good
