I have seen slim opaque boxes that stack. You can see what's inside the box without opening it. On this page, they have single boxes and carts. http://www.containerstore.com/browse/index.jhtml?CATID=71774

I have recently bought some stacking trays which take 12X12 inch papers. There are optional drawers which slide into the trays and there are dividers which can be arranged in the drawer in different sized compartments to hold all the smaller bits and pieces.
This system if meant to be a shop display system but I find it much more spacesaving than lots of different sized boxes and folders. Ask your craftshop if they can get it for you from Woodware Craft Collection.
Another useful but rather expensive product is Clip It Up. This is a rotating stand with over 80 clips to hold peeloffs, stickers and other flat embellishments. You can get a 2nd tier if you want. This keeps an awful lot of stuff close at hand in the minimum space and easy to find.

Papers I like to file separate from embellishments--and have them sorted by theme, if it doesn't fit into a specific theme I then file by color. Personally I like the vertical file boxes for my papers and they come in different sizes--for card size paper you could possibly use an accordion file for standard size paper or smaller.
For embellishments I file the same way--theme then color in smaller accordion files, very inexpensive at your department stores.
For me, filing by theme then by color makes it easier when I want to create something in specific or am looking for a certain color, I don't like digging through mixed boxes, I never get anything done and get discouraged when it takes longer to find what I need than it takes to design the card.

joanns had a little cart out last week each shelf had a 12x12 inch snap top transparent plastic box drawer, you can take the entire drawer to your work station. it looked great to me, i think it has 5 or 6 of those drawers about 2 inches or more deep and big enough for 12x12 papers or anything, it would hold several punches, or tools and lots of embellishments. stencils, rubberstamps or embossing powders, i hope i can get one or more of them this year to keep all my small things more or less organized. it was about 3 ft tall. and 40 dollars

Like others, I use file boxes and hanging folders. I have a box for card stock, one for standard paper, one for stickers, one for ink pads, a dozen or so for my rubber stamps, one for metal findings and ribbons, and two for glitter and embossing powders. I also use gallon size Ziploc-type bags to store things in. It is much easier to grab a bag than carry a whole box, they are clear so it is easy to see just what is in them, and it protects stuff in case of . . . disasters. Broken pipes, spilled drinks, high humidity and even bugs are all kept away from my card stock, embellishments and inks.

I could lend you my Hubby cos he's brilliant at sorting my craft storage problems - he has recently built my storage - but if you haven't too much stuff then i reconmmend a set of drawers - as they hold most stuff as they can be as large as you want. I got some good ones for paper and stuff from Ikea - its the Fira range!

It really depends on how YOU want to organize it. I organize all my scrapbooking and card making papers together and organize via color. I use a 12x12 file bucket drawer with hanging folders (you can get it at michaels)
