I have a 98 4 cyliner automatic Toyota Camry. When I'm coming to a red light, and when i'm braking, the car begins to shake, and the shake doesn't stop even when the car is stopped. However
if i switch the transmission from drive to neutral, the car stops shaking. If I switch back to Drive or reverse, it car starts to shake again. What could be wrong?

Have the motor mounts checked

edit -- It's not a misfire. If it was misfiring, you would still feel it in neutral or park. After all the engine does fire when the car is in park.

From experience I would check the engine mounts. The amount of shaking that bad mounts can cause to the whole car is surprising.

you have a missfire that could be anything from a bad plug to a plug wire, a dirty fuel injector, or a vacuume leak in your brake booster or intake manifold. start with the basics, pull a plug wire one at a time while the motor is running to try to isolate the cyl. try to determine if it is a spark or a fuel problem. check the condition of the plugs, filters, ect.
hope this helps

is it a steering wheel shake like a vibration (not the side to side when there's a wrped rotor) do the rpm's seem to jump?
if so it sounds like a cylinder misfire or the throttle positioning sensor or something like that
i had the same problem

it is either the engine misfiring, or the torque converter clutch dragging.. probably a misfire.. replacing the spark plugs & wires will probably solve the problem...
